Beckham: "Milan was the only team that pleased me."

In an exclusive interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, David Beckham clarified a few points about his upcoming proposed loan move to AC Milan.

Beckham oggi giocherà l’ultima partita con i Galaxy?

"Non sarà l’ultima. Non cambio idea sul calcio americano. Anche se il calendario MLS, con questa lunga pausa invernale, non va bene".

Will you play your last game today (Sunday) with the Galaxy?

"It will not be the last one. I haven't changed my idea of American soccer. Even if the MLS calendar, with this long winter break, isn't good."

Così va in prestito al Milan.

"Ho fatto contattare io la società, perché è l’unica squadra che mi piaceva: sono stato al Manchester United e al Real Madrid, mi mancava il Milan, appunto. E poi loro hanno dimostrato interesse nel prendermi. Ehi, andrò a giocare con Kakà, Ronaldinho, Seedorf e con uno dei calciatori che più ammiro nel mondo: Maldini. E in un Paese dove c’è grande passione per il calcio. Potrei raccontarle un aneddoto che mi è accaduto qui a Los Angeles ieri sera".

You are being loaned to Milan.

"I made contact with the club myself, because it is the only team that pleased me: I have been at Manchester United and at Real Madrid, Milan was missing from that list. And then they have demonstrated an interest to take me. I'll go to play with Kaka', Ronaldinho, Seedorf and one of the most admired players in the world: Maldini. It is a country where there is great passion for football. I would like to tell you a story that happened to me last night in Los Angeles."

"Ero in un ristorante italiano, tutti i camerieri erano interisti: volevano farmi pagare un conto salatissimo".

"Non mi aspetto di giocare e per il momento non ho avuto contatti personali con nessuno. Lo farò nelle prossime due settimane".

"I don't expect to play, and for the moment I have not had personal contact with anyone. I will make contact in the next few weeks.

Si sente all’altezza della serie A?

"Non ci ho mai giocato, ma credo che non sfigurerei. Se hai i piedi buoni ce la fai ovunque"

Do you feel the high level of the Serie A?

"I've never played there, but I believe that I won't make a bad impression. I you have good feet you can play anywhere.

Potrebbe restare al Milan più a lungo?

"Sono un giocatore dei Galaxy e sono contento della mia esperienza americana, un po’ meno di come è andata la mia squadra. Però stiamo già lavorando per migliorarci".

Would you be able to stay at Milan longer?

"I am a player of the Galaxy and I am content with my American experience, a little less pleased with how my team has fared. But we are already working to better ourselves."

Adesso che fara'?

"Mi riposerò per qualche settimana e poi sarò prontissimo per arrivare a Milano".

What will you do now?

"I will rest for a few weeks and then I will be very ready to arrive in Milan."

Alex Del Piero: The Heart and Soul of Juventus

Last night at the Stadio Olimpico in Torino, Alessandro Del Piero scored his 41st goal in his long career in the UEFA Champions League.

It was a trademark touch of the highest quality that left one of the best keepers in the world, Iker Casillas, helpless, as he watched it sail into the corner of the net.

Del Piero described the game, along with the play that led to the goal itself:

"Juve-Real Madrid è una partita diversa. Regala sensazioni particolari, che siamo stati capaci di trasmettere in campo... (Di quelle) che ispirano".

La palla è stata deviata dopo il bel triangolo con Amauri, ha preso un effetto strano. E’ rimasta lì. Ho deciso di tirar subito, per fortuna".

"Juve x Real Madrid is a different type of game. It gives you particular sensations, that we are able to transmit on the pitch... Games like these inspire you.

The ball had been deflected after a great triangle with Amauri, and it took a strange roll. It remained there (on the pitch). I decided to strike it immediately, fortunately."

"A Modern Day Hero." Stefano Borgonovo

Tonight at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, former teammates, along with other luminaries from world football, will honor Stefano Borgonovo, a former AC Milan and Fiorentina player in the 80s and 90s who is now afflicted with Lou Gehrig's Disease. (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

The entire proceeds from this game, called "Everyone for Stefano," will fund continued research for ALS via Borgonovo's Foundation.

A Disease that Afflicts Footballers

For some strange reason, over 40 Italian footballers have developed this debilitating and insidious disease.

Non ci sono dati attendibili in merito. Le cause possono essere molteplici, ci sono anche tantissime persone comuni colpite da questa tremenda malattia".
