Cristiano Ronaldo Reads and Answers His Own Fan Mail

The newly crowned Ballon d'Or winner has an interesting past-time.

He personally reads and responds to his legion of admirers.

Not with a web site or blog.

Not via impersonal email.

He writes letters.

"Devo rispondere alle mie ammiratrici", dice l'asso portoghese del Manchester United al magazine spagnolo 'XL Semanal'. Mi arrivano circa 2000 lettere a settimana. C'è una selezione, ma mi preoccupo che tutti abbiano una risposta e per farlo spendo più di 2500 sterline. Mi arrivano lettere su qualsiasi argomento e per me rispondere è un piacere".

Ronaldo, nato a Funchal, nell'isola di Madeira, ha un solo cruccio da quando è arrivato alla corte di Alex Ferguson, nel 2003: vivere a Manchester. "Conosco la città da un estremo all'altro - aggiunge Ronaldo -. Qui è tutta un'altra cosa rispetto al Portogallo. Non ho spiaggia, sole, mare... E passo gran parte del tempo a casa. Mi sono abituato alla città, ma non si può dire che mi piaccia".

" 'I have to respond to my admirers' says the Portuguese ace of Manchester United to the Spanish magazine, XL Semanal. 'Over 2000 letters arrive each week. There is a selection, but it worries me that everyone receives a reply and to do it I spend more than 2500 pounds sterling. I get letters about all kinds of things and for me it is a pleasure to respond.'

Ronaldo, born in Funchal on the island of Madeira, has only one cross to bear since he arrived at the court of Alex Ferguson in 2003: to live in Manchester.

'I know the city from one end to another' he added. 'Here everything is different with respect to Portugal. I don't have the beach, the sunshine, the sea. And I spend a great deal of time at home. I am used to the city, but can't say that I like it.' "
